I want to preface this post by saying that this post is not calling anyone out, nor pointing fingers. You are all invited to this discussion about CBA and how it will continue to grow in the ever-changing game-meta.
I've been playing BA for over 3 years. There are even some in CBA who have been here since the release of OSRS and earlier. Over that time the game-meta has changed significantly. I could go through a huge laundry list of changes, but I'm not going to bore you with nostalgic ramblings.
I do, however, want to address the diversity of players in the CC and how better to navigate our time gaming with each other in a mini-game whose meta is in constant flux.
CBA has many purposes for the community, but I think its most important function is to act as a place where players can play BA comfortably and make connections with others who have a similar (long-term) interest in the mini-game.
'Comfortably' is a tricky word, since what is comfortable for me, may not be comfortable for others (or vice versa). That being said, I do believe that we can achieve this standard as a community by working together.
If, while playing a fun, you notice that someone isn't using current game-metas and you think it's important, politely invite that player into a conversation about it. If the player doesn't understand or is uninterested, just let it go and move on. If you think it is a large enough concern (i.e. running mid-map from spawn as an attacker/collector), either avoid playing with that player or let a Star know.
Simultaneously, if you're a person (like me) who doesn't keep up with the newest metas or is just a new player, be open to hearing feedback from players. They are most likely trying to help you learn. For example, if the healer asks you (as defender) to call early for over-stocking, try your best to do so. If you mess up, don't worry about it. It would also be inappropriate for the healer to become upset about it.
There is NO expectation for players in CBA to be experts of the newest game-metas (i.e. shrinking potion, calling runner movements etc.) nor should players try to purposefully sabotage others who are "try-harding". Keep it casual. Make this a community in which we can all enjoy teaming with each other by being sincere and welcoming for our comfortable play-styles.
Finally, Sunday Races: do NOT rage-quit Sunday Races. If something goes wrong or your team has a new player who messes up, do your best to laugh it off and finish the race. I have incredible respect for experienced players who can take new players' failures in stride, but I also understand frustrations. Don't let yourself become the 'bad guy' by rage-quitting. You don't have to be a mentor, but, at the least, don't be the bad guy.
That is all. Thanks for reading and let me know of any thoughts you all have.
