Hey everyone, the first part of this thread is a general warning about lending items without collateral and the second part will explain the Gasp scam(s), including recent developments. In short, you should NEVER loan gear/items without collateral because you are always at risk of getting scammed. Although this warning seems pretty obvious, you will likely ignore it sometime in the future because of the friendships you have made while playing this game. Here are a few helpful rules that I sniped from Burto off the BAS zeta:
GASP
In January of 2018, GASP, a BAS admin with no apparent negative personality traits and over 9 months in the BA community, scammed 2.5b from BAS ranks. He was well-liked by almost everyone and his actions were shocking/devastating to several people (including myself). 2 weeks prior to the scam, he claimed to have been “hacked” for 2b+, which led people to loan him gear/items out of pity because he couldn’t provide collateral. Unfortunately, GASP was also a psychopath and openly bragged about his “accomplishment” after the scam. He had likely been planning this scam for months and invested countless hours to pull it off. More recently, GASP tried to rejoin the BA community a few days ago under the alias “Eki”, but was uncovered by our very own Serpico. It is now known that GASP is the serial scammer known as “minigame”, who has scammed multiple times since 2012 including 1 tbow from myself in BAS and another that he didn’t split from a raid. He also recently gained 500 EHP in 2 months because he was planning on joining and ultimately scamming the “Solace” cc. Lastly, he claimed to have another alt inside the BA community and supported this claim by adding an obvious entry on the BAS queue. BA is a very lucrative minigame due to leeching and given his past success + current anger at the BA community for ruining his recent plan, he will more than likely return in the near future.
GASP provides us with a perfect example for why we should NEVER loan items without collateral. It doesn’t matter how close you are to someone or if they have possibly been the “victim” of unfortunate circumstances, you are ALWAYS at risk of getting scammed. PLEASE DO NOT LOAN ITEMS WITHOUT COLLAT! I will be bumping this thread on both BAS/CBA once per month for the sole purpose of reducing the chance that anyone in the BA community gets scammed in the future, especially from this narcissistic shit.
- You should never be afraid to ask for collat (nor should anyone be offended by it) because it is the ONLY way to avoid losing money should that person decide to scam or never log in again.
- Never loan someone more than 50% of their bank value.
- Never loan more than you are willing to lose. If you decide to lend items with zero collat, they should be easily replaceable.
