What: Chess tournament
Time and date: 15th of May, 19:00 UTC
Tournament link : lichess.org/tournament/x86OnoB7 Password: casualchess
People from any skill level are welcome to join!
It will take place through the lichess website, and both navimydude & rata will stream their gameplay with commentary either Discord OR twitch (depending on the number of viewers, as discord is capped at 25 in a channel). [If twitch, check out multitwitch.tv/rata_radio/navimydude]
If you also want to stream your gameplay & be added to the multitwitch, please contact navi my dude in discord /in game or just react on this forum page and I’ll add you to the multitwitch blogpost.
For those unfamiliar with lichess (or chess in general), watch the video below. It will cover how to join the tournament through the lichess website, and it will include some basic strategy for anyone that is new to chess.
The games themselves will be 5 minute games per side, without increment (so up to 10 minutes/game). We will set the total time to 90 minutes assuming a decent amount of participants. If fewer people than expected show up, we might decrease this to 60 min.
After the rounds, we’ll ask the top 4 players to play against eachother (#1 vs #4, #2 vs #3) for a single game-knockout, followed by a best-of-three of the winners in order to determine the chess champion (format 3 min + 2 sec per move).
These final games will be commentated by Rata & Navi, either together or separately depending on how far into the tournament either of us make it.
The winner will be crowned “Chess Master” the casual ba discord, taking the title from fr0zen46, as well as receive a bit of osrs gp.
There will also be some prizes in other categories, detailed below. These do not require you to be amazing at chess, so anything is up for grabs.
Hope to see a lot of you Saturday the 15th!

Note: this is a for fun event. Lichess has excellent detection of people cheating using engines and will often ban these accounts right away, or within the next couple of hours. While we hope nobody will ruin this event by using engines, this is partially why we wait a day or two before administering rewards. Cheaters will obviously be excluded from rewards, and this might echo into other sanctions like exclusion from future events.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Prizes:
1st and 2nd place will take 10m and 5m respectively.
Additionally the 6 fashionscape sets displayed below will be given away for a few different categories (each worth between 2 and 3 million old school runescape gold pieces.
For the first two sets (the tuxedo sets):
#1 will be awarded to the person with the longest diagonal pawn chain
#2 will be awarded to the first person to underpromote a pawn to a bishop or knight (or rook if knight/bishop underpromotes don't occur), giving check with that piece as it promotes.
We’ll reveal the categories for the other 4 sets directly after the event!
Hope to see a lot of you Saturday at 19:00 UTC
