Hello Everyone,
-incoming long post so I can be as explicit as possible, leaving no room for confusion-
I figured I ought to make this post since I want it to receive as much attention as it deserves. I've already talked to a couple individuals about this, though I think it's best to bring this to the attention of everyone at once. Who knows -- once a definitive answer is determined (by the runescape mechanics experts of BA) -- this can even be posted in the Attackers guide!
Anyways, the point of this post is to determine what would be a more effective means of ranging, depending on the player: using Void, or using other equipment (black/blessed d'hide, armadyl). While everyone would initially think "Void, of course!" I want you to read on as the mechanics could be a little more in-depth.
Assuming you're a Level 5 Attacker (by which point, welcome to CBA and have fun learning how to play your roles efficiently here!), you basically have +5 damage on all your attacks. My idea is that, because you have +5 attack bonus from your role, hitting a 5 in BA is like hitting a 0 outside BA. What does this mean? It means that accuracy is also important here, to an extent.
Considering this, there are a few factors to take into account when determining your damage per second:
1) How accurate your Ranged Attack bonus is, as well as Ranged Strength*
2) What your Ranged level is (for accuracy+damage);
3) What wave you're currently on (higher waves yield Fighters/Rangers with more hp/defence).
4) The MSB special, which has reduced accuracy**
5) The use of Ranged pots to increase your Ranged level.
*to calculate how Ranged Strength and Void affects your damage output (including attack style!!), check out the link

**need more information on this, as the wikia doesn't suggest how much the accuracy is reduced by.
On top of that, there are some things that are given, based on the nature of BA:
1) All arrows have a +46 ranged accuracy bonus, as well as +125 strength bonus; and
2) (as mentioned earlier) your Attacker role level gives automatic bonus damage by default.
Now, let's compare our options for ranging gear, with its pros/cons (the below options will assume mainly usage of the MSB(i), and not 3rd age bow / comp bow / etc.)
(1) Elite Void - 10% accuracy bonus + 12.5% damage bonus (maxed + welfare options)
(2) Regular Void - 10% accuracy bonus + 10% damage bonus (maxed + welfare options)
(3) Non-void (I will consider these options):
(3a) Maxed ranged gear
(3b) Black/Blessed D'hide (for a more welfare setup)
(1a)
[-] spoiler
If using Elite Void + max gear (Anguish, Pegasians, Archers Ring (i)), your ranged stats become
+110 + 46 = +156 + 10% (void elite) = +172 accuracy bonus;
+5 +125 = +130 ranged strength + 12.5% damage (void elite)
(1b)
[-] spoiler
If using Elite Void + welfare gear (Fury, Blessed boots, Archers Ring (i)), your ranged stats become
+100 + 46 = +146 + 10% (void elite) = +161 accuracy bonus
+0 + 125 = +125 ranged strength + 12.5% damage (void elite)
(2a)
[-] spoiler
If using Regular Void + max gear, your ranged stats become
+156 + 10% (void) = +172 accuracy bonus
+130 ranged strength + 10% damage (void)
(2b)
[-] spoiler
Regular Void + welfare gear
+146 + 10% (void) = +161 accuracy bonus
+125 ranged strength + 10% damage (void)
(3a)
[-] spoiler
If using max ranged gear (full armadyl, barrows gloves, etc), your ranged stats become
+185 + 46 = +231 accuracy bonus
+130 ranged strength
(3b)
[-] spoiler
Welfare ranged gear (full d'hide, barrows gloves, etc), your ranged stats become
+166 +46 = +212 accuracy bonus
+125 ranged strength
Finally... Ok, so with these various setups, one can come to some noteworthy conclusions:
i. Welfare gear is considerably more accurate than elite void with maxed gear.
ii. Elite void offers +16 ranged strength bonus more than non-void with maxed gear, etc..
iii. If you don't have elite void, it may be that much more advantageous to use your most accurate gear (potentially), instead of void.
Next, we can consider the use of Ranged pots depending on your Range level (between 70-99 Range, it increases by 11-13). Higher range means more accuracy + damage, though let's mostly consider not using these for the purposes of this (long) post!
Lastly, we can consider the 'toughness' of the enemies you're fighting. Below, I'll consider the stats of the Ranger and Fighter for waves 6-9:
[-] spoiler
wave 6: Ranger = 50 hp, 54 defence; Fighter = 49 hp, 48 defence
wave 7: Ranger = 50 hp, 61 defence; Fighter = 50 hp, 52 defence
wave 8: Ranger = 55 hp, 68 defence; Fighter = 55 hp, 62 defence
wave 9: Ranger = 58 hp, 80 defence; Fighter = 56 hp, 66 defence
Given (all) the above information, there are some questions worth answering/ brainstorming:
1. At what Range level is using Void elite more efficient than using d'hide, or Armadyl (if at all)?
2. At what wave is it worth considering using a more accurate setup than Void elite for more consistent hits/ dps (if at all)?
3. Would it help to change your attack style from Rapid to Accurate/Longrange in certain situations (wave / gear / enemy), as this yields higher Base damage (check the 1st spoiler link for more info)?
One idea I have, assuming there is a wave where using maxed non-void could be better, for instance, is that the attackers use Void Elite early on (when enemies' defence levels are low), then switch to the more accurate gear for higher waves to more consistently hit higher than 5s.
Thank you for taking the time to read through this, if you have done so; I enjoyed thinking about all these factors and asking various people as I wrote this post!
tl;dr if this post is too long for you, skip to the questions I ask at the end, then scroll up to the calculations (spoilers) or do your own research
